Finding creative fixes for torn clothing feels challenging, yet I truly enjoy these kinds of repairs. In fact, I love the satisfaction of restoring life to a damaged garment. This week, for example, I worked on a regular client’s coat, which she had bought at a huge discount, because she trusted I would find a solution to a tear.
Since she did not care about having usable pockets, I decided to repurpose fabric from an existing pocket. As a result, I created a mock welt pocket and then sealed the original pocket.
On the left, the photo shows me applying the mock pocket. On the right, the repair displays a finished mock welt pocket. In addition, the stitch lines run neatly along the sides and top. Meanwhile, the shredded fabric stays sealed between the flap and pocket layers.
Overall, I feel excited about how the repair turned out.

Just another simple way to recycle.
